Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

How often should I clean my Blank Canvas Cosmetics Brushes?

All brushes should be flash washed on receipt to allow natural shedding to take place. Some brush types need to be washed more regularly in order to maintain them and prevent product build up.

  • Foundation brushes - once a week
  • Blenders - once a week
  • Eye brushes - every two weeks
  • All other brushes - once a month

* This is a guideline and will depend on the amount of use and product used on your brushes.

How do I wash my Blank Canvas Cosmetics Brushes?

You can clean your brushes by using a daily brush cleansing spray or by washing them at the recommended intervals with our gentle brush soap/cleanser.

Use only a pea-sized amount of soap or cleanser. When rinsing the fibres of your brush, ensure that water does not reach or go into the metal ferrule (shiny metal part) as water damage causes the glue to break down and fibres to become loose.

Ensure the fibres of your brush are rinsed well as excess product residue not only damages the fibres of the brush but also allows bacteria to grow, creating breakouts of the skin.

Once your brush has been rinsed thoroughly, place the brush on a clean surface to dry. Brushes can be laid flat or with the fibres at a downward facing angle.

If you feel that you may not be able to prevent water from reaching the ferrule, invest in a good daily brush cleansing spray.

Important: If you see product building up further than halfway down the brush head, it means your brush is being used incorrectly. Brushes that are saturated in product will not last.
